Don Orseno

As Executive Director/CEO of Metra, Mr. Orseno provides overall leadership and direction to all areas of Metra’s Administrative and Operating Program to ensure that Metra achieves its vision, mission, goals and objectives. Financial responsibility includes oversight of Metra’s budget, which totaled $1.1 billion for operations and capital in 2015. Metra is geographically one of the largest commuter rail systems in the nation, serving a six-county region of more than 3,700 square miles. Mr. Orseno began his career in 1974 at the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific Railroad Company. In 1984, he began working for Metra and has held progressively responsible senior leadership positions, formerly serving as Metra’s Deputy Executive Director/COO prior to his current position. Mr. Orseno has worked in the railroad industry for 41 years. Mr. Orseno is a member of the American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) Board of Directors, and also serves as Chairman of APTA’s Commuter Rail Committee and Chairman of the Commuter Rail CEO’s Subcommittee. He is a member of the Safety Operations and Management Committee (SOMC) of the Association of American Railroads (AAR), and is also a member of the Transportation Technology Center, Inc. (TTCI) Board of Directors. Mr. Orseno is also a member of the Eno Center of Transportation Board of Advisors Executive Leader Subcommittee. Mr. Orseno is the past President of the Association of American Railroad Superintendents, and the Chicago Railroad Superintendents Association (CRSA).
