Donna More is a former federal prosecutor with an exemplary felony jury trial record in white collar crime and public corruption cases. She is also a former felony trial division prosecutor in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office where she tried hundreds of bench trials and numerous jury trials. She is on the ballot in the March 15 Democrat primary election, running to replace incumbent Anita Alvarez as the County’s chief prosecutor. Her campaign platform revolves around three critical issues for the Cook County justice system: reforming the State’s Attorney’s Office so it can be trusted to do the right thing, reducing gun violence so people will feel safer, and rooting out public corruption. She is the only candidate in the race that has shared her reform and gun policy plans with voters. A first time candidate for elective office, she is also the only independent candidate in the race who can be tough on crime no matter who commits it. A 1983 graduate of Georgetown University Law School, More began her career as a prosecutor in the Cook County (Illinois) State’s Attorney’s Office where she prosecuted violent crime and argued cases in the Illinois Appellate and Supreme Courts. As an Assistant US Attorney in the Northern District of Illinois, she expanded her trial experience in addition to arguing numerous cases before the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals More was the first Chief Legal Counsel to Illinois Gaming Board (IGB). She led the team that authored gaming regulations that launched the State’s $1.5 billion riverboat gaming industry which now employs 15,000 Illinoisans. More entered private practice in 1995 to provide compliance and licensing counsel to clients in regulated industries. She served for a time as general counsel for one of the nation’s largest privately held hotel management companies with 75 hotels and 25,000 employees. Today, she is the Managing Partner of the Chicago Office of Fox Rothschild, LLP, a national law firm headquartered in Philadelphia. More is a graduate of Tufts University in Boston and holds a Master’s Degree in Political Science from Northwestern University in Evanston. She taught trial advocacy as an adjunct professor at Kent Law School.
